To say the least, many authors are not thrilled about photoshoots. That does not apply to Sofi Oksanen. We interviewed the Finnish author, who gained worldwide fame with her impressive novel Purge, for BOEK about her novel When the doves disappeared, the third novel in a series of four about the power and politics of the Soviet Union, freedom and oppression, the individual versus the government and society. Rather impressive. But this colourful, dreadlocked, striking lady only really flourished in front of the camera. She let herself be captured in an image charismatically and self-consciously.
